Free Association In Depth Therapy

Updated: Oct 8

Present Moment Free Flow Talking

Whatever is arising for healing from the past will come up into the present moment as you share your concerns, stories, associations, and emotions spontaneously. If you are having difficulty sharing in this way, I can pose some inquiries to take you deeper into what is arising for you and help you to listen to what the deeper, more unacknowledged parts of yourself are trying to say.

During your depth therapy session, you are invited to express all your thoughts without hesitation or embarrassment as you grow more comfortable over time. You are encouraged not to censor yourself, and you are welcome to say anything that comes to mind. It can be so interesting to share in this way. You might talk about your past, bring up random memories, or feel compelled to explore a specific period of your life without knowing exactly why. At the end of the session, we can explore patterns and themes together and take a deeper look at what your subconscious growth edge is expressing about how you need to move forward.

Listening for Your Next Growth Step

While trying free association, not every word, idea, or thought may make immediate sense. You might not know why you are sharing a particular thought, memory or story, but the deeper subconscious is elegantly purposeful in its unfolding growth edge. It is possible to discover deeper meaning or fresh insights by not censoring what you say. So, rather than using your logical, linear mind to talk about your life's story, which is what most people do, you can discover the deeper themes of your life through spontaneous right-brained free-flow talking.

Free Association Writing

Free association writing involves writing thoughts down as they come to you - in a spontaneous and non-logical way. You could do this as a homework assignment between sessions. You are welcome to share what you've written before our next therapy session. See Therapy Homework Guidelines HERE.

With Love,

Shelley
